Elite Team Camp
WOODSTOCK, Ga.--June 17, 2009--North
Metro Gymnastics Center announced that its Elite Team Camp
was a success!
This past weekend, North Metro Gymnastics Center held its
first annual Elite Gymnastics Summer Camp for boys and girls
levels 2-10. Alongside North Metro’s full-time staff, the
gymnasts welcomed nine collegiate and Olympian gymnasts,
including Olympic Silver Medalist and Captain of the 2008
USA Women’s Olympic Team, Alicia Sacramone.
In addition to Alicia Sacramone, gymnasts trained with
National Champion and LSU gymnast Ashleigh Clare-Kearney and
LSU All-Americans Kelly Phelan and Megan Durning, the
University of Georgia Gymdog’s Hillary Mauro, Brown
University Gymnasts and ECAC All-Americans Whitney
Diederich, Sarah Durning, and Carli Wiesenfeld, and Ohio
State University Men’s Gymnastics’ Big Ten All-American
Brandon Wynn and Patrick Hatmaker.
Throughout the weekend, North Metro gymnasts trained
tirelessly on all of the events as well as strength and
conditioning, trampoline and dance. At the end of each day,
gymnasts were encouraged to perform their newly acquired
skills in front of their coaches and teammates during the
Elite Camp New Skill Showcase!
Elite camp was also educational! Campers learned about
athletic training, injury prevention and nutrition from
Children’s Health Care of Atlanta’s Sports Medicine staff
members, Orthopedist Dr. David Marshall, Nutritionist Dr.
Diane King, and Physical Therapist Sandy Brit. Certified USA
Gymnastics judges Brian Morrett and Stacey Harris stopped by
to teach the gymnasts about the ins and outs of the new USA
Gymnastics judging rules and regulations. But camp wasn’t
all work and no play, gymnasts, coaches and parents enjoyed
a pool party and barbecue at the kickoff of camp.
We look forward to welcoming back gymnasts and guest coaches
for a repeat of these festivities at next summer’s Elite
Gymnastics Summer Camp!
